It is important for all children to be able to see themselves in a book.

Melanie’s family is Australian-Korean and she is interested in sharing her experiences of travel, love, family, adoption and life within the voices of her characters.

As a teacher and mother, Melanie loves to bring a smile to little faces, as they have fun, are engaged and delight in learning.

INSPIRATION

As a child, Melanie wrote stories and created picture books. In High School she continued to write, enjoyed learning languages, and continued to read. This lead to her majoring in Japanese and English when completing her Education Degree. Melanie has a passion for educating young minds and making learning fun through songs, games and a variety of interactive learning activities. The students she teaches, and her own children provide inspiration for her writing. They are also one of the reasons she loves to write, to be able to share her stories with her boys in the quiet moments and at bedtime.

She can also type at a reasonable speed thanks to her Diploma in Legal studies and time working as a Legal Secretary in a law firm.

As a child she enjoyed the world of Beatrix Potter, Roald Dahl’s stories, Lois Lowery’s historical fiction and books that took her to different places in the world. Being read to as child certainly encouraged her love of reading and writing. As an adult, she reads widely, enjoys reviewing books for publishers and authors and connecting with the bookish community.
